NBC Sitcom, 'Taste,' Boasts ICE Alum Gail Simmons as Executive Producer
Julie Bowen stars in the series about an embattled legacy food magazine.
ICE alum Gail Simmons will Executive Produce ‘Taste,’ a new sitcom about food media from NBC Universal.
Breaking food TV news: NBC has announced the development of a new comedy series about an embattled food magazine. Titled ‘Taste,’ the half-hour sitcom will star Emmy Award-winning Julie Bowen, of Modern Family fame.
ICE graduate Gail Simmons will Executive Produce ‘Taste’ (alongside Bowen and Rachael Field, who is President of Bowen’s production banner, Bowen and Sons).
The series, set in the San Francisco offices of a legacy food magazine, follows the lives of the publication’s staff in the wake of being bought by a Silicon Valley tech mogul. Bowen, in the role of the magazine’s traditionalist editor, is paired with a trendy social media chef, sparking a culinary culture clash that anyone who has worked in food media will attest, rings 110 percent true. It's part comedic sendup (of the occasionally self-serious food writers) and part clear-eyed commentary (on the state of food media in the TikTok era).
That’s likely why NBC tapped Simmons, an ICE alum (Culinary Arts ‘99) and 'Top Chef' EP, to Executive Produce. As special projects director at Food & Wine magazine, the author of two cookbooks, and a frequent guest on TV shows like ‘Good Morning America’ and ‘The Chew,’ Simmons has the insider knowledge required to ensure that 'Taste' feels authentic. There’s no word yet on story lines, but one can imagine, with Bowen on camera and Simmons behind the scenes, that hilarity and insights to the wonderful culinary world we all know and love are guaranteed.
