Biography
Toba Garrett has been a preeminent cake decorator and educator for four decades. She has been sharing her expertise with ICE students since 1993. In her role as Dean of Cake Decorating, Chef Toba conceived and created The Art of Cake Decorating course as part of ICE’s professional development class offerings.
A well-established authority on classical and historical cake artistry, Garrett’s teaching background spans institutions in the US, Canada and France, and her work has featured in magazines and publications throughout the world. She is regularly commissioned to design cakes for celebrities, as well as events and establishments ranging from museum openings and auction houses, to philanthropic societies and charitable organizations. Additionally, Chef Toba holds a key to the city of Columbia, SC for her work with Benedict College.
In her capacity as a cake artist, Chef Toba has appeared on TV shows including NBC Throws a Wedding, Emeril Live, Home Matters, and Wake-Up America. She won Outstanding Wedding Cake from Le Societe Culinaire Philanthropique and was named one of the Ten Best Cake Artists in the U.S. by Dessert Professional in 2010.
The author of several cookbooks, Chef Toba’s “Wedding Cake Art and Design” received the coveted IACP Cooking Award for Professional Kitchens in 2011. Her other writings include
